We are proud to announce that 581 Las Alturas was chosen as the Santa Barbara Contractors Association’s “New residential construction, up to $1,500,000” award.
We completed this estate home in 2013 with the intentions of creating a home nearest of architect George Washington Smith’s previous custom homes that have become so iconic throughout Santa Barbara. Moorish influences can be seen throughout in the tile work, archways, custom stone work and an open air pool house synonymous to the Riads of Marrakech, Morocco. This 5,000 square foot custom home has four bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms, with a gourmet kitchen, a hand carved stone pizza oven, hand carved wood beams and stone work by sculptor Lon Etzel, fiber optic lighting, a climate controlled wine cellar, wrought iron metal entry doors, four balconies with sweeping ocean views, accordion doors that spill out onto the back patio with a hot tub and pool equipped with smart phone climate control capability, a bocce ball court, dry sauna, a private exterior bathroom and tropical landscaping throughout the half acre property.

Another year, another custom home completed. Completed in March 2014 and nestled high above downtown Santa Barbara on the Riviera, 1117 Las Alturas is a 5,115 square foot residence designed with influences from Andalucian architecture of Spain and structural techniques of George Washington Smith. 1117 has a terraced footprint with four bedrooms, four full bathrooms and two half bathrooms, custom tile work, wood paneling and carved beam work, formal dining, custom lighting, and gourmet kitchen.
In slab hydronic heating

Hydronic heating is a system that uses the homes own concrete slab as a giant, efficient heater. In this case, tubes were installed just before a concrete pour. Eventually they will circulate a warm solution, warming the concrete from the bottom, which will radiate up into the house. This system is totally silent, warms the house evenly, and does not spread air pollutants/allergens through the house like a typical air heater does. It is also cheaper to run compared to a typical heater.

1117 Las Alturas was the third house we started on Las Alturas, after 581 and the recently completed 642. It has gone from a hill side, to a home that is entering its finish stages of construction. Hats off to our entire team and our subcontractors for their dedicated work. There is still a lot to be done, but as you can see from the picture, this home has come a long way.

This is an email from one of the neighbors….
“Dear —-,
In a word. . . WOW.
That is one of the most responsive things I’ve ever heard a contractor do. Our great thanks to you and to Scott H. for taking this issue so seriously. Certainly I didn’t hear a peep this morning before 7:45 AM. It is so comforting to know that we can come to you when there’s a problem. This sounds like a very smart solution that will help a great deal over the long run during the many phases of construction.
Thanks again for handling this so promptly.
All the best, ——”
We certainly aren’t perfect, but we truly care about the neighbors of our construction sites. Our home page says “a family company built upon a foundation of three generations construction experience…” We want to stay community oriented, and keep our reputation positive for Santa Barbara and elsewhere. A special thank you to these neighbors who have been tolerant and kind.
The newest addition to the fleet.

Finding our employees parking near our projects while trying not to annoy the neighborhood became impossible. So we bought a Chevrolet Savanna. Kind of like a school bus for our employees.

Another project in it’s infancy. 1576 La Vista will be right next door to 1570 and right up the street from 1575. Another difficult challenge for us, starting with the rough grade and removal of a big chunk of earth.
